Established in March of 1924, Clube Atletico Paranaense (CAP) originated from the fusion of two traditional clubs in Curitiba – America and Internacional. Atletico inherited the color red from America and inherited the color black from International. The explosive combination of red and black soon represented the passion that the people of Curitiba felt for their team, their city, and their state.
Atletico is one of the largest clubs in Brazil and contains the country’s largest and most modern stadium, Arena da Baixada. Consisting of 5000 meters of constructed area, CAP’s training center is one of the most modern and complete training centers in all of Latin America.
CAP offers the most advanced technology of player evaluation and allocates large amounts of resources towards the development of young players. As soon as players arrive at the club, they begin the intensive training regimen at the Training Center where they receive technical, tactical, physical, and personal training. The work at CAP brings excellent results, as many of their own youth players have been called to the Brazilian National Team.
It was from CAP’s youth categories that great names have been created such as Kleberson, member of the World Cup winner squad in Japan/Korea 2002 and currently at Manchester United; Dagoberto and Fernandinho, members of the winning squad in the World Youth Cup – U20 in Dubai, 2003; and Paulo Rink, member of the first German National Team at the Euro 2000 tournament.
Teams and players are expected to train two times a day and play games over the weekends. Players also have the opportunity to see a professional game at the Arena da Baixada Stadium (If games are scheduled). All parts of the center’s infrastructure are available for your individual or team use during your training period.
Many teams have taken advantage of Atletico’s Training Center. The Brazilian National Team has been using Atletico’s Training Center since its participation in the World Cup of 2002. Other teams such as the Chinese National team have also used Atletico’s Training Center either for pre-season training or preparation for individual matches.
